The Pueblo West Community Band was established on June 4, 2010 beginning with 14 members by the current director; Mr. George Hammersmith. Since then, the band has become part of the community providing a musical experience for everyone. The band is dedicated to serving the community by performing concerts, supporting our troops, and supporting music programs in schools.
The ensemble is consisted of members from all over Southern Colorado. Members have come from Pueblo West, Pueblo, Florence, Cañon City, Wetmore, Westcliffe, Fowler, and Colorado Springs to participate in this ensemble. The audition process is simple; if you love to play music, you’re welcome to join us! The ensemble plays music that has to do with patriotic themes, movie titles, standard concert music, and other very familiar tunes!
In addition, the ensemble has been able to create smaller ensembles within the band. Members are given the opportunity to form anything from a Dixieland Group to a Clarinet Ensemble to perform at the concerts as well. They add a whole different perspective on how specific instruments perform, and they bring members within the ensemble closer.
The founder and current conductor of the Pueblo West Community Band stated when beginning this ensemble, “Pueblo West needs a community band! There are so many talented musicians out there that can come together, and do what they do best: play music!” The band has been dedicated to staying on that path, and plans to provide the best musical experience possible!
