Mr. George Hammersmith is the founder, and current director of the Pueblo West Community Band. He graduated from Colorado State University of Pueblo with his BA in Music Education K-12 Instrumental and Vocal in 2012 and from Adams State University in 2017 with a MA in Music Education. He teaches private music lessons all over Pueblo County on various instruments in woodwinds, brass, string, and percussion. Through his career of becoming a music teacher, he gained his experience through learning each instrument either on his own or through instruction, and he volunteers many hours with local music programs in the school districts. On the side, he composes music for either solo work, or large ensembles. His compositions have been performed by the Pueblo West Community Band, and other ensembles he’s encountered. He continuously seeks other opportunities to make himself a better musician, but he enjoys assisting others in their path to become great musicians.
George Hammersmith’s favorite quote reads by Victor Hugo, Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.
The Pueblo West Community Band has been one of his hardest projects to begin, and maintain, but it’s one of his favorite things to do!
