All Musicians are welcome!
We strive for excellence, and dedicate ourselves to sharing our talents with those around us. We support our Community and surrounding areas by providing an opportunity for everyone who has the desire to be part of an ensemble, and have that opportunity here.
The Pueblo West Community Band was established on June 4, 2010 after months of deliberation and planning. The mission statement of the Pueblo West Community Band is “All Musicians are welcome! We strive for excellence, and dedicate ourselves to sharing our talents with those around us. We support our Community and surrounding areas by providing an opportunity for everyone who has the desire to be part of an ensemble, and have that opportunity here.”
The main focus of this group is to provide the community with an ensemble experience, no matter the age, skill level, or desires of the musician. This group is open to the Community to serve the community, and become a musical and learning experience for musicians and young conductors. Another important aspect of this group is allowing all students who are seeking preparation for upper level education the opportunity to gain experience in the Pueblo West Community Band, and any other ways we can help them reach their dreams as future musicians.
It is the intention of the transition committee that this philosophy be continued, to include welcoming both students and adults returning or continuing to play their instruments in an ensemble experience, to nurture the growth of young conductors, and to find a great balance between growth in skills and experience, and the fun and enjoyment of participation in this group.
The original group began with 12 members on June 4, 2010 at SonRise Methodist Church in Pueblo West, Colorado. This group is designed to grow and produce music for years to come. Under the original foundation and direction of George F. Hammersmith III, his priority was to bring music to all who seek more as he did. His focus was to see that this band was established, and that it continues reaching out to the community playing what true history has made. His favorite quote by Victor Hugo states, “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.”
As our founder George Hammersmith stated in forming the Pueblo West Community Band, “To all those who become part of the Pueblo West Community Band, may your musical experience be influenced in the most positive way possible and provide you with the opportunity to play music!”
